Don’t Lose Sight of the Victory

By Don Loftis | 11.05.09

Adversity is a part of our world. Sin has tarnished the beauty of God’s perfect creation,.leaving us with the reality of pain, illness, and death. Life isn’t always fair; and at times, it feels anything but triumphant.

We encounter this when we read of a young man in the Middle East who obeys Christ and is openly persecuted for his faith. We experience it when a faithful husband and devoted father has his wife leave him for another man and take their children with her. We grapple with unfairness when an honest worker loses their job, insurance, and retirement.

Most everyone reading this can identify with this struggle. Every adversity and inequity serves as a test of our faith. Do we love God at all times or just wnen things are going well? Do we trust God in every situation or just when we understand everything about the situation. These tests are real, and they serve to provide a gauge of our spiritual maturity.

Remember, God was around long before any of us were here; and He will be here long after our tenure on earth is completed. His perspective is different from ours, because He sees beyond our loss or layoff. Though interested in our lives now, He is even more interested in our eternity. We must never forget the truth of Romans 8:18, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
