Giving It Our All

By Don Loftis | 02.02.11

Most of us like to “dabble” at things that come into our lives. We may experiment with a variety of hobbies, not willing to invest a lot of time or money in any one activity. Maybe that is why people even change jobs or careers several times in their lives. We are often afraid to unreservedly commit to a job or a spouse.

However, the demand of our faith according to Scripture is to be very high. Jesus summarized the law with this command, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul, and with all your strength” (Mk. 12:30). On another occasion, He said, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness” (Mt. 6:33). The apostle Paul challenged his friends in Philippi, “But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:13-14).

As Christians, we are not looking for the easy way out or to discover clearly defined minimums. We want to offer our best worship and to understand the Bible the best we can. We want to be exceptional disciples, not just adequate ones.

This all consuming calling does not mean that we neglect family or give second rate effort at work. It doesn’t mean a withdrawal from society or a monk-like existence. It means that Christ has such control of our lives that He rules in every aspect of it. We give the Lord our best in every facet of our daily lives.

Think about it, and give God everything you have!
