The Censoring Of Truth

By Don Loftis | 04.06.11

New York City statistics reveal that 60% of pregnancies among African American women end in abortion. This prompted a Texas based pro-life group to purchase billboard space in New York and post a tastefully designed ad that said, “The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb.” Pro-abortion groups were outraged, and within a week Lamar Advertising removed the billboard claiming that it “provoked harassment.”

The Gay/Lesbian/Transgender lobby can get its message out, though it is distasteful to many. Money for beer commercials and lottery ads is readily accepted. Try getting a moral message into a Super Bowl commercial. Maybe it is just me, but it sure seems that censorship is only working one way.

Sadly, the worst censorship of truth takes place from the pulpit. Some truths have been silenced. Few sermons are preached on sexual relationships outside of marriage. Affairs and “living together” may not be endorsed, but they are rarely condemned. Cultural acceptance of divorce, homosexuality, evolution, and materialism have deeply altered sermon outlines. A generation of people in the pew have been raised with a censored moral code and an edited theology.

Paul knew that a time would come when people would not want to hear the truth, but he encouraged Timothy to “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with great patience and instruction” (II Timothy 4:2). His message is too important to be silenced!
