Faith On Display

By Don Loftis | 07.11.12

The inspired writer of Hebrews challenged his readers to have a great faith.  In chapter 11 he chose to define faith and to illustrate it through men and women of the Old Testament whose lives had displayed dynamic faith.  Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and many others became the real life demonstration of faithfulness to God.

Some may have questioned Timothy’s ministry, thinking him to be too young or inexperienced.  Paul responded by writing him, “Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe” (I Tim. 4:12).  Critics will always be silenced more by our actions than our promises.

Likewise, everyone of us as Christians is called to represent the Cause of Christ in a positive way.  We are to be seen doing good to all that we meet. We set a moral example through lives of integrity, honesty, virtue, and sexual purity.  We patiently walk a second mile, forgive folks who mess up, love even our enemies, and put Jesus ahead of  anything or anyone else.

The biblical text clearly sets forth the rules for our daily living.  However, the lives of individual Christians demonstrates that challenge.  They put flesh on the bones of faith; they move us from theory to practice.  As Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.  A city set on  the hill cannot be hidden” (Matt. 5:14).
