Does Our Joy Show?

By Don Loftis | 04.10.13

The Scriptures repeatedly highlight the joys and happiness associated with living a life in Jesus.  Paul wrote, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 15:13).  He also wrote, “Great is my confidence in you; great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort; I am overflowing with joy in all our affliction” (II Cor. 7:4).  Peter powerfully wrote in I Pt. 1:8, “And though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory.”

Certainly joy has its home deep inside of us producing contentment, confidence, and peace.  As the children’s song says, “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart. Where?  Down in my heart to stay.” However, great joy should have some outward expression.  Joy should …

1. Put a smile on our face (G.P. Holt used to say, “If you’re happy, notify your face.”)

2. Create positive, energetic, uplifting worship.

3. Help us complain less and be thankful more.

4. Lead us to be active in ministry and to volunteer for jobs.

5. Produce a positive outlook on life — even in the face of tragedy.

6. Create a buzz of excitement in our fellowship groups.

It is time that we let the world see what Jesus is doing in our lives and our families.  We need to let our joy bubble to the surface and radiate for the lost to see.
