Our Response

By Don Loftis | 02.19.14

I suppose that you are as frustrated by aspects of our culture as I am.  We often disapprove of societal attitudes toward marriage, morality, work ethics, origins or self control.  Too often we experience the last beatitude personally, “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.”

We do live in the midst of a “wicked and perverse generation,” though I doubt it is anywhere near the worst.     It is hard for us to affect the changes we desire in the life of one individual let alone in a culture as a whole.  Let me suggest two things that we must do in order to make a genuine difference.

First and foremost, we must live the Christian life with determination and a smile.  We need to behave like Jesus desires, rejoice at all times — even in the face of adversity, serve others with no ulterior motive, and patiently teach why these actions are important to us.  The world must see the power of God demonstrated in forgiveness, love, and sacrifice.  Preaching can be ignored, but living testimonies to God can never be silenced.

Secondly, we need to pray.  We need to pray for all of our leaders and for those who question or reject God’s way.  We need to ask the Lord to open doors of opportunities for each of us to be positive influences.  We need to seek wisdom, faithfulness, and patience in our daily decisions.  We must remember that the weapons of our warfare are not of this world but filled with divine power from above.  We must never give up or back off!
