Act Like It

By secretary | 10.15.14

Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought to yourself that you looked a lot like one of your parents? Maybe, you are like me, and you have heard yourself say something only your parents would say, or you laugh just like them. If you have not heard or seen this yourself, you have probably had people point out how similar you are to those that raised you. “You are just a chip off the old block!” “I bet you are Mrs. So-and-so’s daughter.”

It makes sense doesn’t it? You spent years under the same roof as these people. You share genes with them. It would be pretty strange if you didn’t look anything like them, and somehow managed to act nothing like them.

Sometimes we forget that God, our heavenly Father, is a POWERFUL being. He is the powerful God that led Gideon (self proclaimed loser) and 300 soldiers to victory over thousands. He is the same powerful God that sent an angel to decimate 185,000 soldiers for threatening His children in the book of Isaiah. This is the same God that beat death itself through the sacrifice of His son! That is some real power. In Acts 1 verse 8, Jesus says “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you …” Through baptism we have received the Spirit and the power that comes with that. Yes, God is love. Yes, God is compassionate, forgiving, and merciful. He is also powerful. He gets things done. He turns the seemingly impossible into reality. He changes people. He saves people. Wouldn’t it be strange if we didn’t look or act anything like Him? Our God is powerful, so act like it.
