Let The Children Come

By Don Loftis | 09.23.15

As I watched hundreds of children enjoying themselves at Fall Festival Tuesday night, I was reminded of Jesus’ words to His overprotective disciples in Mark 10, “Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.”

We learn so many important lessons from children. They are dependent and trust those who love them to care and protect.  Children have short memories; they let go of both triumphs and failures very quickly.  Their emotional tenderness is transparent in both their laughter and their tears.  With “eyes of faith” youngsters are creative and imaginative.  They also love to learn and experience new things — growth is a natural expectation of their lives.

I am thankful for all of our programs that minister to children.  Regular Bible classes, Bible Hour, Break Night, Day School, and VBS all seek to share God’s story of love.  Service projects like shirts & socks for school or White Christmas gifts address specific needs.  Fall Festival is our annual celebration for the community.

Even more than our ministries, I am thankful for all the people who make those ministries possible.  Your labors of love are planting seeds of truth and fulfilling the Lord’s dream.  Let’s keep those children coming!
