Take A Look At The Lamb

By Don Loftis | 04.20.16

It seems like the presidential election has been going on forever, and it still has six months to go.  The positions advocated along with the attitudes and behaviors displayed by the candidates often leave us embarrassed or even angry.  This frustration led one church to post this on their church sign: “Have the elephant and the donkey let you down?  Turn to the Lamb!”

This is not intended as a political statement, as much as it is a statement regarding values and power.  Where do we go to find answers to our problems?  What is our hope for tomorrow based on?

In Psalm 20:7 David calmly asserts, “Some boast in chariots and some in horses, but we will boast in the name of the LORD, our God.”  The chorus of an old hymn echoes that thought with the words, “Some build their hopes on the ever drifting sands, some on their fame or their treasure or their lands.  Mine’s on the Rock that forever shall stand — Jesus, the Rock of Ages.”  Is our trust in missiles and medicine?  Is our confidence in the ever changing laws of Washington or the eternal truths of Scripture?

We certainly celebrate our freedom to choose our leaders.  We will vote this fall, and do our best to select those we believe to be the best qualified.  However, our peace at night will continue to reside in the “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.”  When the world disappoints, let’s be sure to take a look at the Lamb.
