Lessons From Our Trip

By Don Loftis | 08.03.16

Reflecting on our ten day trip to California is almost overwhelming.  Aside from women needing more clothes and a few folks who needed a course in manners, the trip was nearly perfect.

Despite driving nearly 1900 miles and spending 61 hours in the car (mostly sight seeing), we managed to get some much needed rest and quality time together.

We were constantly amazed by God’s great creation, as we experienced the natural beauties of the area.  The magnificent Sequoias and Redwoods humbled us by their size.  The majestic ocean views offered glimpses into the vast power of God.  Ever changing temperatures which ranged from 107 to 57 in the midday reminded us of God’s variety, as did the mountains, grasses, flowers, vineyards and animals.

Standing in a grove of Redwood trees that were 1000 years old and 300 feet tall, we experienced the true presence of God.  We were reminded of the words of Psalm 8, “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and stars, which You have ordained;  What is man that You take thought of him?”  The love of God for each of us reminds us of the true meaning of grace.

As we travel in our beautiful world let’s never become so enamored by the souvenir shops and restaurants that we forget to refresh and reconnect with God.  Remember, God made this world for us to enjoy, but He has something even better for us in eternity.
