Don’t Pack Up Your Faith

By Don Loftis | 01.04.17

The holidays are past and it’s time to put up the decorations.  We will box up the ornaments and carefully roll the lights.  We will flatten the inflatables and squeeze them back into their boxes.  The larger decorations will be wrapped and carefully placed in large storage bins.  Artificial “trees” will be disassembled and packed away for another eleven months.

Such activities are necessary so we can move on to the next season and the next event.  Proper storage protects our investment and allows us easy access next year.  It may not be as much fun to pack it up, but it is something expected.

I fear that some people treat their faith exactly the same way.  We get it out, enjoy it, and then put it away.  Do we pack up our Christianity and safely store it, while we go on vacation?  Is it shelved, while other priorities capture out time and attention?  As teens, do we store our faith until after we get out of college?  Do we keep it safely out of sight, when our peers laugh at Christ?

Christian living was never designed to be seasonal.  It is an ongoing process that requires daily participation.  The New Testament refers to our life in Christ as a “walk.”  The apostle John commented in I John 1:7, “But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”  Let’s keep our faith out of the box and use it everyday.  Let’s showcase it in such a public way that others will be able to enjoy its beauty.
