Expanding Our Vision

By Don Loftis | 05.10.17

I want you to imagine that you have just received an amazing job offer from a competing company several states away.  As you sit and ponder whether to accept the offer, several concerns flood your mind.  Initially stunned and overwhelmed, you begin to feel excited and confident about this promotion.  Then, you pause to wonder how your spouse will respond to moving?  How will your children feel about leaving their friends?  Who will step up and watch out for your aging parents?  Who will handle the car pool?

Each of these responses raises a valid concern or opportunity that needs to be addressed.  However, there are some other issues that are often never faced.  How would this change affect your relationship with God?  Is there a group to worship with?  Where would you and your family be more useful in serving the Lord?  Daily living sometimes blinds us to our first responsibility, which is to participate as citizens in the kingdom of God.

My fear is that too often we are more concerned about how politics and social issues affect us rather than how they may impact the kingdom of God.  What appears to be dangerous or threatening to us, may be an incredible opportunity being unveiled by God.

Whether in our moves or our ministry, we need to advance the agenda of the Kingdom of God rather than personal or national interests.  Jesus summed it up in the midst of the Sermon on the Mount by saying, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Mathew 6:33).
