Our Mission Supported Effort in Brazil
Several decades ago some American missionary families targeted Belo Horizonte, Brazil, as a place to concentrate new mission efforts. While at Freed-Hardeman College one of these families encouraged Eddison Fowler to devote his life to working with the church in Brazil. After having married his college sweetheart, Lajuana Orand, and getting his Master’s in missions in Texas, Eddison moved to Brazil to begin work.
Since that time, the Central church in downtown Belo has developed into a strong mission-minded congregation, having established seventeen other congregations in nearby towns. Sete Lagoas and Ipatinga are two of the latest examples which Miles Cotham saw and visited while there in March-April of this year. The congregation also the weekend following Miles’ guest mission principles class employed mission tactics learned from his concentrated classes on these two mission areas.
The Fowlers have three grown children with their families (all faithful to the Lord’s church) living in Belo and one in the States. Eddison has not let a major back operation nearly four years ago slow him down despite his having to use crutches from time to time. He serves as one of the elders at the Central congregation. Old Hickory began helping his work in February of 2018. Baptisms are frequent and regular in Belo.
